Texas License to Carry

Texas License to Carry (LTC) Courses

Successful completion of a LTC course is required  to receive a Concealed Handgun License in the TxDPS - Concealed Handgun Program.  This is a 6  hour course that prepares you to safely handle a handgun, assures you understand Texas laws concerning concealed carry, and documents you are proficient in firing a handgun.

Massey's course is taught by certified NRA instructors who provide the training and guidance for the state application process.  Courses are tailored to the experience, comfort level and needs of the participants and held on the firing range.

Date:  Last Saturday OR the First Sunday of every month beginning at 2 pm.  One day course.

Time:  2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please make arrangements for extra time in the event the course runs longer.

Where:  Massey's Gun Shop & Range, 1 Massey Way, Brownsville, Texas.

Cost for the Course:  $100 new license. Cost of the course includes:  course packet,  targets, paperwork, and notary service.  No renewal class required if your CHL is close to expiring or less than a year.  See below.

Texas Law has changed for Renewals.

You will need to bring 50 rounds of ammo or purchase from the shop.  If you do not have a handgun, you can rent one from the shop.

Expired license for more than a year:  If your CHL has expired for more than a year you need to take the course again.  Full price because the State requires you retake everything.

Expired license close to expiration date or less than a year:  If your license has expired for less than a year, or near expiring go to this webpage to renew.   https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl/.  Also, if your license is expired, stop carrying until you get your new license.   You do not have to take a renewal course. Use your savings to purchase a year's membership at the range!

State Processing Fees:  Click here to view the fees required by the state to process your CHL. There are different prices.  Look at them all to see if you qualify for a lesser rate.

Registration:  If you didn't register, that is fine.  Just show up.  We take all walk ins. Contact by phone 956-346-6950 or put them on the Facebook Like Page for questions.   Remember to confirm if the course will be held on Saturday or Sunday.

Information to review for classTexas Handgun Laws   Keep this handy so you know the law.

Handgun:  You must qualify with a 22 or higher caliber handgun.  If you do not have one, we have rentals.  This is a good time to learn what type of firearm you want.

If you do not have a handgun you can rent from us.

What to wear:  The course will be held at the Range and the handgun proficiency will be held out of doors. Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather:jeans or other long pants, shirts and blouses like a t-shirt or polo .  Wear low heeled shoes that cover your feet.   No sandals, heels or flip flops.
